    Where is data from?

    This is great.
Are you actually importing data from anywhere, or did you just draw the grid?
(I don't have access to MP in the office, so I can't actually look at the ptm to see...I'm just going off of the pictures.)

This is why I was wondering about e00 files the other day...I found a lot of road and point data for Iraq and wanted to import it in.

    Rahn,

The data was put in using the drawing tools.. it's not automatically pulled in from an external data source.

BTW, Bill Thoen posted some free data, see: http://lists.directionsmag.com/discu...=34034&t=34034
But I don't know if that's just simple things though like what's already in MapPoint.

I checked the data Bill Thoen is offering, it is indeed a lot more detailed than what MapPoint includes for Iraq. AFAIK, the source data is free from the U.S. gov't, but of course they don't make any effort to provide it in a format compatible with popular GIS platforms (MapInfo / ArcView). For why MS hasn't included it, I can only surmise that it's not a priority for their target markets and too big too include with full North American or Europe streets and still fit on a CD.

    Anyway, here's a couple screenshots:

    An overview of the data:
    http://www.mp2kmag.com/iraq.war.map/...e_iraq_map.gif

    Baghdad:
    http://www.mp2kmag.com/iraq.war.map/...et_bagdahd.gif

Here's the announcement and link to download the data: http://lists.directionsmag.com/discu...=7&t=34035&a=2
(Also, some data in shape format: ftp://ftp.gisnet.com/pub/Iraq_av.zip )

As far as any serious thought about using the data and creating maps with it, I think the struggle with importing into MapPoint would be worth just getting the MapInfo software ($1,400).

    Speaking of other formats

Some other good looking data can be found at the GIS Data Depot:
    http://spatialnews.geocomm.com/features/iraqmaps/

Download the free MrSID viewer and check out the detail of the maps. I was really impressed!
(It's the same maps they show on the above page, but you can zoom in really nice.)

    PTM for European Version MP?

I liked the screendump, but cannot open it in the European MapPoint version. I hope that's not politics

Those screenshots were created in MapInfo -- I did not import them into MapPoint. Is that what you're talking about? To get the data into MapPoint you'd have to download the vector data from gisnet and import it using the Spatial data importer developer sample, but your chances in actually getting that to work without editing either the code or the data are not good.

Oh -- good point. I will see if I can cut/paste the drawing objects over to a MapPoint Europe map.

    Hi everybody...

I don't know if i am welcomed here or not but i want to inform u about what is really happening in iraq

it is up to u to belive me or not..but the usa leaders are tricking their public

u now know that there is neither atomic nor chemical weapons in iraq as Bush said before tha war...if there are some of them why didn't they find them????

the second point is that the usa killed soliders are almost 5000 up to now....yes it is difficult to belive that but it is the reality...

because i am closer to iraq more than u..i can know more than what u know

do u think that the usa government will do the same mistake done in vietnam when it allowed the media to be free in reporting the usa loses there????

i don't want to talk anymore...i'll let the pictures and videos that i recorded it from various channels talk themselves...i don't record all ot them but this what i did for a chance
