California School Finder Web Site Uses Microsoft Virtual Earth Mapping Platform
On Jan. 8, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the launch of the California School Finder, a Web site that allows citizens to compare California schools side-by-side. The site is powered by Virtual Earth and is a great example of how state and local governments can leverage the platform to better serve communities through innovative technology. SpatialPoint Launches Virtual Earth-Based FollowTheGame.com
On Jan. 17, SpatialPoint, a Microsoft Certified Partner, announced the launch of FollowTheGame.com, a free service to help people find radio stations that will be carrying the Super Bowl game on football’s biggest night, wherever they may be located. FollowTheGame.com uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft Virtual Earth and SpatialPoint Atlas to enable users to enter a location where they will be for the game, or an origin and destination for a route on which they’ll be traveling, and get a map with a list of the AM and FM radio stations where they will be able to listen to the game. Microsoft Virtual Earth Supports Local News
All over the U.S., Virtual Earth is used to support local TV news outlets. At KOMO in Seattle, the station uses Virtual Earth maps to demonstrate presidential primary locations. At WBTV out of Charlotte, N.C., Virtual Earth maps are used to highlight the location component of the station’s general news stories. WMAQ in Chicago uses Virtual Earth with Weather Central’s online application to power NBC’s Weather, and KSPR in Springfield, Mo., uses Virtual Earth to demonstrate weather conditions and patterns. Yellowpages.com and Loopnet Migrate to Virtual Earth 6.0
Yellowpages.com, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc., and Loopnet Inc., a leader in online commercial real estate, have both added Virtual Earth 6.0 technology to their Web sites. The migration to Virtual Earth 6.0 delivers multipoint trip routing, enhanced geocoding that combines results for multiple geocoders, rooftop geocoding, which provides more precise geocoding results, and map control support for Safari 2.0. Big Partner Wins in Q2!
The Virtual Earth team successfully established numerous relationships and alliances in the past quarter. Virtual Earth established agreements with MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co., a global leader in the production of energy from diversified fuel sources, and HomeServices of America Inc., a provider of real estate applications primarily for consumer real estate brands. Virtual Earth also established an agreement with Hotel.de, a leading travel portal site in Germany (and central Europe). In addition, Virtual Earth established alliances with Sealy and Rockwell Collins.

Ohio Department of Transportation Uses Virtual Earth
The traffic Web site Buckeye Traffic provides Ohio travelers with up-to-date information on road conditions, traffic, construction and other activity affecting roadways managed by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). The Web site uses Virtual Earth to provide citizens with a look at road closures, scheduled construction, traffic cams and more. The Weather Network and MeteoMedia Deliver Highway Conditions With Microsoft Virtual Earth
On Jan. 21, The Weather Network and MeteoMedia, two of Canada’s leading providers of weather information, announced that they will provide consumers with integrated highway maps of the latest road conditions, in conjunction with Virtual Earth mapping software. Consumers can now view the latest and most up-to-date highway road conditions on an interactive map, on a satellite image or on a combination of both. Within the new platform, consumers can zoom in to street level or zoom out to view conditions across the entire country. Accessing highway conditions will be more visual, user-friendly and interactive.
