The license to run Mappoint on this machine allows access only through the ...

    Hi, (My First Post)

I have installed MapPoint 2004 on a pc and when I start it up it gives me a message that says -The license to run Mappoint on this machine allows access only through the MapPoint Control.

I can log in as domain admin and it runs without the message above but as the user, it gives the message and does not allow the program to run.

    Whats the deal?

    thanks

    What did you install from?

I have heard of MapPoint run-time licenses (they used to sell developer 10-packs), but I didn't think the media or installation was any different.

    HI

I installed it from the files that were once on the installation CD - they are just in a network location now, just in case the CD got scratched or broken. Its strange though, because I can run the program ok as domain admin -no messages or anything but log in as the end user and I get the message I posted.

I don't particulary want to give the end user domain admin rights -

    thanks

Can you temporarily give the user admin rights, lock them in a room with no computer, install under their account, then remove admin rights for that user? (don't forget to let the user out from the room).

    Apologies for the delay.

I gave a user domain admin rights and logged in as them and installed MapPoint and was able to then open the app without issue. (this was on a machine that had never had map pont installed)

I then went back to one of the original machines that did have map point on it and tried to uninstall it as the person I installed it as. It tells me that the datastore.edb file is currently in use and to click retry (which has no effect) I tried to uninstall it as local admin - tried in safe mode - all no joy. So as domain and local admin, I cannot seem to uninstall it - is there an uninstaller for this?

It only shows up in add/remove programs if you are logged in as the person who installed it - otherwise its not there.

    Weird. Any ideas? thanks

    datastore.edb in use

It looks like it's a Windows Update file and by the looks of this search it sounds like many other people have had problems with it...

datastore.edb in use - Google Search

I don't know the solution, but hopefully that search points you in the right direction.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
