Locarta Technologies, Inc. introduces the Locarta 2020i® vehicle tracking system. Using the latest in vehicle location technology, Locarta's solution for the emerging field of Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) utilizes the Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Nextel's wireless iDEN network. The location solution works with Microsoft MapPoint software tracking vehicles in real-time across the country where there is Nextel® coverage. Locarta locates and tracks the vehicle(s) desired with the Locarta 2020i®. This small vehicle tracking unit measures only 5"x5"x1". It offers simple yet powerful interfacing software, the Locarta Dashboard, that allows the user to select the features needed to efficiently track company vehicles. A CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data) version and a Logging-only version are available for those outside Nextel's coverage area.

on a product that is going to be discontinued in 1 month and the new version implies heavy restrictions and additioanl costs for any body who now wants to use MP for real time or near real time tracking> do these guys know something i dont, or did they just buy a bunch of 2002 and put them on the shelf ????

it is interesting that a company would make such an announcement in a MP newslettter 3 weeks before the release of 2004

I was thinking it's a new press release, but looking now I don't see a date on it. Locarta did not include the mention in the newsletter, I did -- perhaps mistakenly thinking it's new news.
