TROY, N.Y.--Aug. 25, 2003--MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS), the leading provider of location-intelligence solutions for the enterprise, today announced the release of MapInfo Professional(R) v7.5, the newest version of the company's flagship mapping and analysis solution. With greater support of industry interoperability standards and improved integration with Oracle(R), Microsoft(R) and IBM(R) software, MapInfo Professional v7.5 now empowers enterprise users to analyze their data more effectively and make better decisions.
MapInfo Professional v7.5 offers more than 30 new features, including enhanced data creation and analysis tools, designed to increase productivity and improve decision-making throughout the enterprise. Improved interoperability of IT and industry standards enables MapInfo Professional v7.5 users to perform more in-depth analysis of disparate sources of information.
This new version fully supports Open GIS Consortium (OGC) standards for Web Mapping Service (WMS), enabling users to access remote or local servers over the Internet or intranet. For example, a municipality could use MapInfo Professional v7.5 for crisis preparation. By accessing and overlaying critical infrastructure maps from multiple sources emergency managers will be able to create a new map based on data accessed from a variety of sources into one single view for a more complete analysis of critical infrastructure and risks in their jurisdiction.
"The growth of Web services technology has placed integration concerns at the forefront of every enterprise's IT infrastructure," said Michael Hickey, COO, MapInfo. "With the release of MapInfo Professional v7.5, MapInfo is empowering users with the most comprehensive integration mapping technology available for performing in-depth analysis of multiple data sources through a variety of software applications. The latest version of MapInfo Professional offers customers a new arsenal of mapping, visualization and integration capabilities for improved analysis and presentation of critical information."
MapInfo Professional v7.5 increases data access and the analytical capabilities of enterprise users by enabling them to share information between applications with greater ease and simplicity, regardless of the location or the format of queried data. For instance, MapInfo Professional v7.5 delivers improved support for Oracle(R) Spatial technology as well as Microsoft Excel(R) file format, which facilitates easier data sharing between enterprise customers.
"One of the biggest challenges we face is disseminating environmental conservation law changes to the farming community of Denmark," said Ole Gregor, project manager, City of Denmark. "Farmer's consultants use MapInfo technology to determine the location of land boundaries in relation to environmentally protected conservation areas. MapInfo Professional v7.5 provides the latest data access and interoperability features, enabling farmers to directly access county environmental law changes to immediately realize the impact of law changes, saving time and drastically reducing the inquiries and paperwork."
Specifically designed for ease of use, MapInfo Professional v7.5 speeds workflow and increases productivity with enhanced data processing and map editing features. MapInfo has improved the user interface to facilitate convenient access to commonly used functionality. In addition, new output options for printing, which enables users to set maps to any scale offers greater flexibility for output. The sharing of maps and mapping projects with other MapInfo Professional users around the world has also been simplified in this new version. Users benefit by increasing the speed and efficiency with which critical location analysis can be incorporated and accessed throughout the enterprise.
