mapobjects vs arcobjects in vb

hi everyone,
i am very new to GIS. i need to make an application, preferably in visual basic and incorporate GIS. from what i have read, mapobjects and arcobjects can be used from visual basic to access GIS functionality. which one is better?also should i go in for visual basic.net ? this application is not web enables atleast right now.

You might try a more general GIS forum or something for ESRI.. here's one:

thanks eric. i am looking through the user forums on esri's site. it seems mapobjects will satisfy all the functionality that my application needs , i need not go into the extensive arcobjects.

As long as you're here, have you looked into MapPoint?

Also, the mapping web services are pretty neat..

no, i hadnt even heard of mappoint. i am a few days old in this field
i will defi look into this too.becos i am still confused as to what is the best solution and i am tired of reading the whole day! i just wish someone could tell me everything i needed to know

Map Object Vs Arc Objects

Map Object is purely to develop a stand-alone GIS application. But Arc object is for customizing and to create additional functional tools for Arc Info. If you can impart some more information for what you are looking at, I can give you better Idea.
