Mapping the Parkfield Earthquake + Aftershocks

Here's today's Parkfield (California) Earthquake and aftershocks:

The data was obtained from here:

http://quake.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/Parkfield_eqs.htm

Unlike the other maps, I haven't produced an underlying hazard map. This is due to the low resolution of the hazard data in the area of Parkfield.

The smaller earthquakes are the aftershocks, and map out a segment of the San Andreas Fault. This is probably the segment that slipped in the main earthquake.

The earthquake is causing a lot of excitement in the seismology world. With a large earthquake predicted in the area in the 1980s, the area surrounding Parkfield has been covered with intensive instrumentation in an attempt to see a large earthquake as it happens. Although it occurred a bit late, it has finally happened!
