[MapPoint 2002 / 2004] : licences ?

Hello,

I've got a little question about MP2K2 and MP2K4 licences.

I'd like to develop a software which display some pushpins
according a database of fields technicials (about 6-7 guys).

This software will be located on 1 computer available for
1 user.

Should I pay 1 licence only (for the user) or is this a rate
between the number of pushpins displayed (this 'information'
is upholede by my boss and I feel it's wrong...)

And, now, what happens if the application isn't located on
a PC but if it becomes a MP web service ?

Regards,

Vincent

Hi Vincent,

You need 1 licence per computer, not per user. Web is forbidden unless each user of it has a licence. Number of pushpins is of no matter. When it is (near) real time fleet display you need to delay each updated position with a few seconds.

That's the whole agreement in short words

Wilfried must not be aware of the license change that took place on Jan 11,2005. Real time and Near Real Time is no longer an issue. You now need the Fleet Edition license. You will only need 1 copy which is between $750-1150/copy and commit to sell $10,000 worth of MP 04 licenses over the next 2 yrs. Fleet licenses are not available at retail, only through the ISV program, and you must also be a gold level member of the MSN developer program.

Can you please enlighten this in simple englesh or drop a copy of the new licence here (if possible only the changes) ?

Furthermore is is not legal to change a licence agreement in same software, meaning if Microsoft wants to change they have to change version. Also it has to be very clear by the user of the software that we are having a real new version (not only a version number upgrade for the new licence).

Could be that this is legal in US, but it is certainly not in most european countries. Delivering software means you support developping from customars which can cost huge money and time from them !

To give a stupid example: You buy a car from me and after some time I say to you that agreement is changed and now you have to pay me per km you drive an extra fee. Sure this is not legal here !

Wilfried: My understanding of the new Fleet Edition License, is that it is a new license option. It does not affect existing license holders, although it might prove a more economical option if you were about to deploy a development system, for instance...

There's a discussion here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/cthota/archive...11/351208.aspx

which in turn references the following MP2KMag newsletter:

http://www.mp2kmag.com/update/mappoi...er/2005-01-12/

Directions Magazine also has an article:

http://www.directionsmag.com/article.php?article_id=744

Strangely, a Microsoft page (other than the above blog) doesn't appear in the top 10 results from Google.
