Does it need to install the windows installer? You might try checking WindowsUpdate, perhaps it will install some necessary component.
Also, does it prompt and tell you what file it's looking for?

the first window I get when installing is "system files udate" I have 2 choices 1) "repair system files update 2) uninstall system files update. I chose the Help button and it tells me to contact my vendor
I then chose the "repair system files update" button and hit next, and it gives me 2 more choices 1) reinstall system files update or 2) detect and repair errors in system files update. I chose detect and repair, then pushed the button "install" button and it started the installation procedure, then a window pops up telling me to insert the Microsoft Office XP professional CD. If I press OK or Cancel it uninstalls what it just installed and tells me I can run set up again. I have tried this on 2 of my Windows 98 machines with the same result each time. I have not taken choice 2 on the first window for uninstalling system files update. I have taken both choices on the second window with the same results on both.
Thanks for any help.
figured it out, had to uninistall system files update, then it installed fine.
