Hi all,

We have about 8000 records of data in excel that we want to create maps from. The data has coordinates... some of the information that is contained consists of horsepower, water levels, efficiency, etc. We are wondering if this would be a suitable product for presenting geographical data? Or, do we need a more sophisticated GIS system?

Also, what is the difference between 2004 and 2006? Is it worth waiting for?

Hi John,

Yes, MapPoint will work. I would recommend to get the 2004 version trial and then MapPoint 2006 will come out soon.

Thanks Eric, we went ahead and ordered 2006, since the University software vendors said they could ship us 2006 next week.

I appreciate your response, I bet when we get into it there will be more questions.

If the University software vendors actually ship it in this time I want to hear about it as it could be a conflict with MS's other partners like myself.

I am skeptical myself about the delivery date. On the other hand they wouldn't ship us 2004, so maybe they know something. I am not sure who they get their software from, but I believe it is a 3rd party group that services government and education institutes.

Now if I told you how much they were selling it for, you would no doubt have additional issues
