I am extracting data regarding housholds by income in the UK per postal sector.

The numbers im getting do not seem to add up.

For example sector "AB10 1" has total of 1213 households.
The split by income is 276 (<10KGBP), 494 (10-20kGBP), 601 (20-30kGBP) and 612 (>30kGBP) which sums up to 1983 households.

Could someone please verify if my data is corrupted or Mappoint contains buggy data.

I replicated what you did for AB10 1 and got exactly the same result as you ie. the sum of hoseholds in the 4 income categories being much greater than the total households figure. This was true for all AB postcode sectors. I also compared with MP2004, where the 4 categories DO sum correctly to the household total; basically it looks like the household total in MP2006 is probably valid as these are close to the 2004 figures, but the counts by income levels are all over the place and don't appear to have any correspondence. As a general rule I've always been wary of the demographic data that comes with MapPoint, and normally link into the Census data using the 'output areas'. However it's a real pity if the MP income data is wrong as this is probably the most useful stuff they provide.

Could you explain that to me please?
I could just find the Census Data from 2001, is there also newer data available?

Is it really possible that there is an error of about 16Million households in the Mappoint date?
(sum over households total vs. sum over the 4 household categories)
