We are going to write a delphi application using Mappoint 2006. We want to put the program in the a notebook which will be mounted in a vehicle. When the vehicle moves, the program will record the current position in every 5 or 10 seconds. My question is can I use Mappoint 2006 API in the program to give me the real time position of the vehicle? If it can do it, which API should I use?

Hi,

Yes mappoint can exacly what you wants. To use in Delphi 2..7 you have to use the object model, and starting from D2005 you can use the component. I use i twith success in D5 and D7.

Mappoint comes with an API with all the methods you need. Examples are given in the help file in VB, but that should be no problem to read

I just searched on the microsoft.public.mappoint, some people were saying that the SDK does not have the GPS features. What did they mean? I am a little bit confused.

Btw, should I use GetLocation to get the current location?

Hi,

Mappoint also has the possibility to connect a GPS receiver to serial port. This is not in API and not needed because if you use the API you can better write it yourself

So what you have to do is parse the data coming from the GPS receiver, and place a pushpin on the exact position. You can zoom / move the map to center around it, or move when it go out of the window or whatever.

And Yes, GetLocation returns a Location object form the geocoorinates. To add a pushpin at the location use AddPushpin method.
