MapPoint 2006 Major Newbie Needs Help

Hoping there is someone out there willing to help. I am just starting out with MapPoint and I am having trouble with the seemingly simple task of mapping territories.

I have a spreadsheet with the following columns:

    ID
    Sales Rep
    Customer
    Account #
    Street Address
    City
    State
    Zip Code

I am trying to get it to make a map showing territories for each sales rep based on city or zip code for starters. Would really like to eventually get it to go by the whole address...I don't see a field for city. Only county.

I am linking the spreadsheet and I keep getting a message saying, "Some geographic areas in the source file are assigned to more than one territory. These geographic areas will not be included in any territories. Do you want to continue and ignore these redundant areas?

I want to map these areas because I'd like to see where my sales reps are overlapping to start with and then I'd like to get to point of push pins and linking sales data to territories, etc.

    What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi virtuigs,

It looks like you're missing a Territory column.
Once that's added and you have someone's name in each row,
you'll decide from the Territories Wizard which geography to use.

    Thank you for responding.

I have another worksheet in the spreadsheet with the following columns for territories:

    ID
    City
    State
    Zip Code
    Country
Territory (which is the Sales Rep)

I've been able to get "globs" of territories, which don't look like the ones in the tutorial and I have push pins for specific addresses of customers in the territories. I used "Shaded Areas" geography. I still got the message I mentioned above though.

"Some geographic areas in the source file are assigned to more than one territory. These geographic areas will not be included in any territories. Do you want to continue and ignore these redundant areas?"

    What does that mean???

    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,

I think the best is to find the offending addresses. To do that make a copy, then start to delete on a base of 50 procent until you have no offending addresses anymore, then you start to add again. Then we are able to see what exacly is wrong with it.
