    Hi Ricardo,

The "Construction Data Update" feature is functional only in the North American product. In MapPoint North America the update can be performed also by clicking "Route", and then selecting "Update construction information". However, this menu item is not present in MapPoint Europe.

I think it's easy for them to put in the North American version because USDOT compiles and publishes this information (Marvin might be able to tell you if there is also road construction info for Canada).

I doubt the EU body has centralized road construction projects to that degree, so it would be a lot of work and spotty to offer the same functionality for MP09EU.

I honestly don't even know, Eric. I don't really pay much attention to the "Construction Update" feature at all. I have used the NA version of MapPoint (and Streets & Trips) for trip planning and for GPS navigation many many many times, but I just simply don't know how to deal with the information that a particular road segment may be under construction. Should I avoid it? Often times I'm much better off to just ignore the data and keep driving through the construction area. Avoiding it may often add a lot more time and mileage to the trip.

True, but you can plan around and be prepared for delays. I think it may also route about road closures? But not sure about that.

I think the marketing folk at MS working on this product must have been tickled that people would mistake the "Update Construction Information" feature as meaning that you could automatically download new roads and have an updated road data set. But I am being cynical.

Yes, Eric, that indeed seems to be a common misconception.

Re: MapPoint 2009 Construction Data Update for European Edition

Both in the U.S. and in Canada construction information is spotty as not every state supplies the data and not every province supplies the data, and the data is provided at the town, city, county and state level. Major projects from various states MIGHT make it into the construction update, but having driven across Canada and the U.S. I can assure you that many never make it into the updates because the data is NOT supplied by the state, etc. So it is a problem getting data from the 65 plus jurisdictions that constitute state, province or territory, or district in the U.S. and Canada, and Mexico I am deliberately excluding since it is in the N.A. version but construction updates for their roads I've never seen...
