    Mappoint 2009 UK postcodes

    Hi All,

I have installed mappoint 2009 trial version as I am interested in purchasing this software.

I would appreciate if anyone could let me know if it's possible to update the postcode list that is in the package by default? When I import a list of postcodes I have to set-up a territory, a portion of them are not reconised, but from my research they seem to be valid postcodes. So rather than assigning these to similar codes, is it possible to insert these into the package?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

    Michael

I donít think itís possible to insert new postcodes into MapPoint.

When you say that you have to import postcodes to set up a territory, the lowest level you can build territories from in MP is postcode sectors (eg KT17 6) so based on your experience are there a number of postcode sectors that MP2009 isnít identifying? If so Iíd be interested in seeing which these are.

    Hi David,

Yes, I think you're correct, it's not possible to insert new data into MPP2009 and according to MS's website the only time the data gets updated is when MS release a new version of the software.

I have not tried to import at sector level yet, only at district level (eg KT17). Out of the list we have by district code, that we classify as current, valid codes, 171 (excl. NI) of these are not identified in MPP2009. I haven't looked at these in detail yet, I think possibly few will be made of non-geographic codes.

When I get to the office in the morning I will import at sector level to see what the results are from that.

I am more than happy to let you know my findings, district and sector level.

Thank you for your reply, it's appreciated.

    Re: Mappoint 2009 UK postcodes

I took a look at MapPoint 2009 postal geography this morning and I can’t see any way that there are 171 districts missing from the data. You’ve excluded NI. In addition I think there are about 146 non-geographic districts (eg BD99) that for obvious reasons won’t be included. Also MP still has no coverage of JE (Jersey), GY (Guernsey) and IM (Isle of Man). Could these be included in your database? Pls give us your feedback after you’ve re-looked at the source data because if there is a significant number of geographic districts missing that could have nasty consequences for data mapping.

    Re: Mappoint 2009 UK postcodes

The Ordnance Survey Royal Mail PAF-derived post code data doesn't include Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, or the Isle of Man either. I've never looked at the PAF specs to know if the same is true for raw PAF data, but it is very common from other suppliers.

Similarly, MapPoint North America is a bit lacking in the Puerto Rico department...

    Re: Mappoint 2009 UK postcodes

    Hi All,

Sorry for the delay, a bit hectic. I still need to do proper analysis with our postcode data, but it does seem that MPP2009 does cover basically all the postcodes. Considering JE (Jersey), GY (Guernsey) and IM (Isle of Man) are not cated for, and my data did have these postcodes, which I wasnt aware of.

Before I post my "invalid" postcodes I have to make sure from the source if in-fact these are valid at all.

Thank you all for your input.

    Michael
