Yes you can use MapPoint 2009 from Visual Basic 6.

VB6 is getting very old, so personally I would be very reluctant to start a completely new project using it.

Re: Mappoint 2009 with Visual basic 6

Hi,

try to register it again: mappoint.exe /registerserver
or delete and add again the ocx in the programming environment?

You may also have to re-add it to the control "toolbox" in Visual Studio.

The object model's version number changed - so you have to make sure your references are correct. Re-adding it to the VS toolbox, and then re-inserting it into your project should do the trick (but Wilfried is the OCX expert - I prefer to use it as an application rather than a control).

Re: Mappoint 2009 with Visual basic 6

Hi,
I can not add mappointcontrol.ocx in "components" of VB6!

something strange:

in 2009 MapPoint OCX is 28kb ??
in 2006 MapPoint OCX is 355KB

thanks
Alex

Richard says :"You may also have to re-add it to the control "toolbox" in Visual Studio."
As far as i know VB6 IS NOT Visual Studio , . it's not the same IDE .. Shame on Microsoft that does not assuming compatibility beetween their own IDE . SO if we have hundred thousand of line code in VB6, upgrading that to VS we'll be a mess and a tremendous lost of time and productivity. Mappoint is not the only surprise , when you try to maintain a sustainable programing environment ... try a Pivot Table control in Visual Studio .. and have a pray!

Re: Mappoint 2009 with Visual basic 6

adirat: Yes it is a different IDE, but Visual Basic 6 does install as a part of VS6 and appears in the same menu - ie. they are branded as such, and you knew what I meant!
(the same applies for FoxPro)

Re: Mappoint 2009 with Visual basic 6

I'm sure Richard is correct. One can do a lot of great stuff with VS.

However, when I program in Access, Excel (... Office), or VB6, I have no problems whatsoever with COM objects (ocx).

Bitmaps, text, and HTML are also 'old.' I still use them.
Everything on the computer is basically text 'tied to the registry database' and compiled into machine-language to run faster. Simple, eh?

Re: Mappoint 2009 with Visual basic 6

Bitmaps, text, and HTML are old but they are also good and work well!

The problem with VB6 is that it is unsupported and has some pretty serious problems as a 'serious' programming language for big projects. Those problems are never going to be fixed. Support for new systems is also going to be limited, and will diminish.

There are better alternatives, although the best from Microsoft (C# or VB.Net, imho) has its own problems due to the .NET framework and inelegant interfacing with COM! VB6's strength is that it easily works well with COM for most applications.
