MapPoint 2010 optimize gives different results

Hello,
Our application interfaces with MapPoint to do some routing and then optimizing the stops within that route. What I have noticed is that when we send the exact same stops to MapPoint we get a different end result for the stops after optimizing.

To make sure it was not our application I created an Excel file and imported those stops and routed/optimized them and got different results each time. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas on settings that could affect this?

Thanks.

Re: MapPoint 2010 optimize gives different results

Are all of the routing parameters EXACTLY the same?

Eg. route type (this is set on a waypoint-by-waypoint basis), speed, preferences, etc.

Doing a route "clear" will clear many of them which you would expect to be sticky (road speeds and/or road preferences come to mind).

Re: MapPoint 2010 optimize gives different results

Yes, I opened up two MapPoint applications and followed the same steps both times. Each time I optimized the route I would get different results. Before optimizing I did check the route options and they were set the same.

Thanks.

Re: MapPoint 2010 optimize gives different results

It is probably the heuristics in the "Optimize" function then.

Optimize does not calculate all options - only a tiny fraction in fact.
(to check all would take years if not millions of years in many cases)
