Mappoint adding Values in a given territory.

I am importing a large amount of sales data into mappoint. We have addresses, company names and potential opportunity ($) from excel.

We want to identify territories based on the total value on each of those territories. So we want to have pushpins for each locations and be able to draw and re-draw territories while seeing the sum value of opportunities within each territory. Is there an easy way to do this?

I have the full version of Mappoint 2010 and am currently using the 2013 trial version.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

Yes, the easy way to do this is to link your Excel dataset.
Aside from your address and opportunity-value fields, there will be a column named Territory.
If a pushpin 'moves' from one territory to another, refreshing the link will show this.

This can also be automated in an application - if this is what you seek, please contact us.

I linked my data based on a unique identifier, created a few test territories manually, and refreshed the data.

There is no new column in the source excel file titled "territory".

What I would really like is for mappoint to show the total values of territories on screen, but if it can't, at least update the excel file. Even exporting does not help because the export file does not append a territory to the address line. It exports addresses and territories in separate tabs.

I mus be missing something here.

My apologies, I should have said that you should add a field named Territory and that you have control over what territory each pushpin will be in.
The totals will only show in the tooltip when you hover the cursor over the territory.

So what you're saying is that I cannot use manually created territories? They need to be outlined in excel?

When I use manual territories, the only think showing up in the tooltip is "Custom Territories - MAD" (MAD is the name of one of my territories.)

Yes, in order for the map to reflect your changes, you'll need your linked datasets to be well defined.
We have this in MS Access with forms that have an embedded map, dropdowns, checkboxes, etc and a refresh button.
I'm sure this can be done with Excel or XAML/C# & SQL Server as well.

Is there any way I could borrow that access file and see if it is what I'm looking to do?

I can't give you the databases, but sometime a picture helps.
This simple interface draws upon much data, queries, and code to display the desired information

Hmm. Maybe I'm making this sound too complicated, but the only thing I want to do is draw a circle around addresses and have mappoint show me their combined value.

The data mapping wizard is able to do this for all addresses that fall under a zip/county/state etc. Why not for territories/shapes?

We have an that exports all shapes (content) to individual tabs ...
It is something that could be done in Excel, perhaps, and therefore deemed an unneeded feature?
Not sure, really, but we could make an addin for that - it would sum by color or z-order, maybe?
