MapPoint - Control how it matches a location

I'm trying to control the order in which MapPoint (2004) matches a given address.

I'm passing a postcode, lat/long (in some cases) and local town. I want it to use the postcode in preference to the others as (in this application) it's the most accurate, followed by the grid location and then local town.

But, I don't seem to be able to control MapPoint to prioritise the way which it matches, as it always seems to go for the grid, then local town (and makes a right hash of it!).

The data is being loaded from a CSV file via the oMap.DataSets().ImportData method.

Help!!
Anyone any clues?

You should probably try to manually place each location one at a time. Then you can search for the place in the preference you want - ie. postcode, coords, then street address.

Coordinates should be the most accurate (whether the ones that have been given to you, are , is another matter!). If you must use a Dataset Import (and often you do), I would write a QC program that does the above searching and creates a pushpin set. Then export the longitude, latitude coordinates from these pins (your code, or PushpinSet); then copy these in to your original dataset.

Re: MapPoint - Control how it matches a location

Yeh, I'd originally done the import as individual records, but found it was very slow as I'm importing about 3,500 pushpins.

Maybe I'll just have to go back to that method to get the accuracy I need!

In this case, the full postode (I'm in the UK) is the most accurate using mappoint's own database. If that fails (i.e. new/changed codes since 2006), the next level is a grid location in the general area of the postcode distict, which can be several km square.

I can understand it's parsing logic in taking the grid as most accurate, but I need to override that priority.
