I have a client who has a web application (JAVA applet) and they want to add some mapping to it. One of the ideas is to get it to generate a MapPoint .ptm file 'on the fly' that can be downloaded by the user (through the applet) onto their client machines. They then will be able to view the maps (.ptm file) using their own copy of MapPoint locally (assuming they have purchased it).

My question is that is it against the EULA to use MapPoint on a server to
generate the .ptm files that will be used by other licensed MapPoint users?

Any ideas?

It shouldn't be.. however the EULA specifically prohibits Internet use. Will it be a secure web site that might be considered an Intranet or probably more accurately an "Extranet"? I think you could make a case that it does not violate the terms or spirit of the EULA.

However, check with maplic@microsoft.com to see what Microsoft thinks, that's a lot more important than what I think
