Mappoint file formats

Hello,

Sorry if this has been asked before I'm a Mappoint newbie so not sure what to search for.

I work in the Health Service and want to do some mapping which incorporates the boundaries for the local Primary Care Trusts. The ONS can supply me boundary files, but they come in the following set of formats:

.shp
.shx
.dbf
.prj
.sbx
.sbn

they have said they can also supply in .mid and .mif if needed.

My question is can Mappoint 2006 import any of these file types?

Cheers

Gregg

Re: Mappoint file formats

It can import either one.. there's a Spatial Data Importer developer sample in the Microsoft Download Center and a much better GIS format importer from Visimation, use Google to search.

Re: Mappoint file formats

Hi Gregg,

Eric is quite correct that the Spatial Data Importer will import both ESRI ShapeFiles and MapInfo MID/MIF files.

However...

I would guess that you're from the UK (seeing as you mention the Health Service and Primary Care Trusts) - and I would bet that the files you get will use OS coordinates (rather that WGS84).

Unfortunately, the Spatial Data Importer (excellent though it is!) won't cope with OS coordinates and my experience is that UK 'authorities' won't provide you with anything else!

I had to resort to cobbling something together which I wouldn't want to inflict on anyone else!

If you get anywhere - I'd be really grateful if you'd post here as this is something we in the UK could do with...

Good luck!

Re: Mappoint file formats

You might try this -
GIS Data Import for Microsoft MapPoint®

They have a 10-day trial.
