Mappoint has encountered a problem and needs to close

Hi. I have been using Mappoint 2004 on a WinXP Media
Center machine for several months with no problems.
Today, when I tried to open MP, right after the splash
screen I get an error that says "Microsoft Mappoint has
encountered a problem and needs to close." The
description of the error is:

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source (
Microsoft MapPoint ) cannot be found. The local computer
may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote
computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to
retrieve this description; see Help and Support for
details. The following information is part of the event:
mappoint.exe, 11.0.18.1900, ntdll.dll, 5.1.2600.1217,
00053380.

I have tried repairing the installation, defragging the
drive, uninstalling and reinstalling... nothing works.
Same error every time. I checked the KB and the Mappoint message board and nothing seems on point.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Normally other than reinstalling the latest service pack (which fixes wierd problems most of the time) or trying a few simple things we relaod a workstation insted of trying to repair it. It is not worth the time and effort to try and figured out whats wrong and apply the fixes when we can just re-image the workstation. (You do need to do the upfront work of creating images if you dont already do that. If you have a standalone pc it probably came with disks to re image.

If you've recently changed default printers and the new default printer driver isn't up to snuff for MP, that might do it. Try a different default printer.

YPMapper - you are a GENIUS!!!!! That did the trick. All I did was change my default printer and everything works fine. Thanks so much for the help.
