For the desktop version of MapPoint: No. There are two reasons. First, the EULA explicitly prohibits use on the web. Second is a technical reason. To get MapPoint working on an internet page, you would have to use the ActiveX control. This is quite big, and the map data is huge (hence the reason for two CD-ROMs). Sending this over the Internet would not be practical. In theory you could install it on an Intranet, but every PC would have to have a legal copy of MapPoint installed. For web use, you should look at MapPoint webservices if you require a lot of functionality. It is pricey though. For free (and much less functional), there's Virtual Earth. This would be fine for simple location display, data point plotting, etc. Richard

Hi ! thanks for your answer we would plan to use it on a stand alone system. this system doesn't have an internet connection for security reasons. So i can't use the webservices. we would just have our application which does have the internet explorer to display simple html pages (no internet information or something else). Does the EULA allow the use on a single html page which is not placed on an open net? I think it's easier to make an html page and place it c:\Temp\mappoint.html and load this page in IE than to write an extra application which does have mappoint in our application window (VC++). We have all our mappoint application licensed. At present day we use Mappoint 2004, but not so frequently. (so far money for the license is not the big thing). It's just brainstorming and evaluation of possible solutions. -kristijan |
