this might sound like a crazy idea, but....

is there any kind of addon program available for mappoint that would allow me to setup a view of different locations where computer servers would be stored, and then show lines connecting them. green line means OK, red line means BAD, something like that.

and an external program would ping the servers to check if they are available, and then display this information in mappoint.

i heard there is something like a "mappoint server" that microsoft also makes, would that be something needed for this?

Such an app could definitely be programmed.. but you'd have to program all the network monitoring logic and then program how it's depicted.. perhaps it would take 1-2 days for a talented programmer or 1-2 weeks for a novice?

Anyway, you might try something like What's Up Gold, this would be much simpler to implement, although you wouldn't have the map, you could name the network objects with their city names and arrange them geographically if imprecisely --
