    MapPoint and Tornado Alley

    Hello,
I'm a new user of MapPoint, love it, but still learning!
I have been trying to figure out how to map "Tornado Alley". My boss is wanting me to find out what locations within our company are in "Tornado Alley".

    Can anyone help?

Where are you going to get the tornado information? If you have tracks in a GIS format you can import them using the Spatial Data Importer developer sample.. if you have a map which depicts the "Alley" you might just trace that area using the drawing tools.

    Eric,

That's a good question, I have no idea.....
I didn't think of using the drawing tools, I will try that.

    Thanks for your help!

I'll submitt map once done, maybe someone else can use it as well.

    Thanks again!

MapPoint 2004 (maybe 2002 as well, I haven't looked) has a "Tornado Index" in the supplied information. This will give everyone an idea. When I looked at it, it looked like it was based on insurance claims - there were a lot of "hotspots" on cities...
It may be incomplete - the "Earthquake Index" data excludes Alaska - even though it is the most seismically active part of the US!

re. Texas: I lived in Houston for 3 years and never saw one. I don't even know where the local sirens were. Flooded by two Tropical Storms though (one was the day I left for good).
Up here in the Dallas area, we get the sirens a few times at about this time of year (none yet). Two years ago we had one pass the top end of ths treet, but it wasn't touching down at the time. Over in Arlington it took out a couple of houses, and the Dallas Morning News had a good shot of it with the University of Dallas and Texas Stadium (both are within a mile or so of where I live).
Oklahoma seems to get a lot more than us, and Houston quite a few less...

After writing that, I see Houston has a Tornado Watch for today

As well as living in Houston and Dallas, I also grew up in a part of the world that has more tornadoes per square mile than tornado alley (the UK - yes they're smaller tornadoes), and my only tornado experiences are all from the Dallas area...
