    MapPoint for Web Sites?

We were hoping that we could use MapPoint 2002 to help us calculate the delivery costs displayed on our web site. Basically, multiply the rate per mile by the distance between the customer and our delivery center.

Reading the licensing agreement during the MP 2002 installation, it doesn't look like we can use MapPoint if it is being accessed from the Internet.

I've been looking for more info on the MapPoint Active X control, but I'm struggling to find any real details on the MS site. Does anyone know if we can use the Active X control behind our web site?

Ideally, we'd like to use the MS web service but looking at the pricing details I think that it would be too expensive for us at the moment.

    Thanks in advance,

    Re: MapPoint for Web Sites?

Anyone who is using MapPoint must have their own license for the application and/or ActiveX control. There is both a full license and a run-time license available (see the Help files). Otherwise, it is my understanding that if you want a user to access MapPoint technologies, you need to subscribe to the MapPoint .NET service.

If your user(s) *do* have a MapPoint license, you can easily embed and control a MapPoint ActiveX control on a webpage. Most, if not all, of the functionality available to a VB user (for example) of the control is available through VBScript and JavaScript. PM me if you want any help with controlling MP via JavaScript/VBScript.

One possible caveat that I am dealing with now:
