I'm considering a move of my business to a different location and would like to take an excel spreadsheet of 1700 employees' home addresses and run sets of commuting distances to a new building location.

Is this doable on any website and if not how could I get this done involving Mappoint solution of some kind?

Not planning on doing this regularly, so frankly I'm trying to avoid an expensive product or service for a seldom done analysis.

Appreciate any help.

I do not think there is another GIS solution cheeper than Mappoint. Have you tried the free demo version? You should give it a try and import your address info. You might need an add-on product to do the batch job you are describing but at least with the mappoint demo you can get a feel for the program.

When you get MapPoint, there are at least two add-ons available that will calculate distances (or travel times, or costs) from the employees to the new location, and both are very affordable.

There are differences between the two products, so you may find one suits your requirements better than the other. Both work on MapPoint - give it a map with the locations pre-loaded, and they'll go off and perform the calculations for you.

John's suggestion that you get the MapPoint demo is a good one.
