    Merge Pushpins on Import

    Hello,

Our company uses MapPoint 06. In a master map of all our customers, we use pushpins to determine if the customer is active, not active, suspended, or on 'hold'. I'm trying to work on keeping this updated. To do this, I imported every single contact we have (around 7000). To keep this updated, I was wanting to import (from excel) only the new contacts we received since the last update.

The import works fine, but I can't figure out how to have the new contacts added to my current pushpins. Every time I try, it creates a new 'set' of pushpins that somewhat replicate my original ones. The updates will typically only be 20-30 people. If there's a way to copy/paste records from one pushpin set to another, that would work fine. I just can't figure out how to do that.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Todd

    Hi Todd,

Microsoft has done this for you already.
Simply use the Link Data Wizard on the Data menu to create your map.
On occassions when you update your spreadsheet (MapPoint is closed),
you save your work, close Excel, open MapPoint and choose the item
Update Linked Records on the data menu.
All new (located) addresses will appear and all those deleted will be removed.

    Mike,

Thanks for the quick response. I gave this a try and I see how you mean this would work. I was importing instead of Data Linking, so that option wasn't available. This will be a great help to us. Thank you for the input.
