Re: Microsoft Dropping Flight Simulator - and Popfly?

I used to play with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000. It was an awesome feeling to fly. The very first time I tried it, I swear my stomach could feel altitude changes, LOL. Later versions of the program, which I never played with, actually incorporated Navteq map data(!).

Sorry to hear FS is dead. R.I.P.

Microsoft Dropping Zune?

There are people saying they might be phasing out the Zune...

iPodNN | Microsoft Zune revenue drops by $100 million

We have an iPod touch, that thing rocks.. our kids actually prefer to watch their cartoons on it sometimes. The sound and video are crisp, and there's a little heft to the device so they can use it as a weapon on each other. What more can you ask for in a PDA/music player?

It seems like such a seminal product, I'm surprised they would kill it. But development costs must have grown exponentially over the years. Licensing Navteq data can't be cheap.

Maybe they are going to merge it into Virtual Earth.

Discontinued Microsoft software

What else have they killed over the years?

About a year ago was FrontPage.

The last release of FoxPro was several years ago.
Visual FoxPro - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PerformancePoint is going away and bits folded into other products.
The OLAP Report: The rise and fall of Microsoft PerformancePoint Planning

There's actually a Wikipedia article about Discontinued Microsoft software though it doesn't look up to date.

I miss CD Player and Microsoft Mail! What is the chance I could get them to run on Windows XP?

Two pages of interesting reading. Thanks for the link. It makes one think how easily things can change. If FS can be discontinued, couldn't the same happen to Streets & Trips, or even MapPoint?

Re: Microsoft Dropping Flight Simulator - and Popfly?

They did discontinue AutoRoute, correct?

I have to wonder if they were losing money on Flight Simulator or if they just were making the level of ROI they need or what the real financial picture was for them to shutter ACES Studios.
