Here is an other cool Virtual Earth application for travelers. This one from MSNBC allows you to check the condition and last inspection dates for bridges within a .2 mile along a route that you specify. The site boasts more than 100,000 US bridges for which the records come from the latest National Bridge Inventory.

The options allow you to set filters to map bridges by status (not deficient, functionally obsolete, structurally deficient) or inspection schedule (on time, 1-12 mos late, more than 12 mos late). Bridge locations are represented on the map in colors to also denote inspection schedule status. In typical Virtual Earth solution fashion, mousing over an icon returns more detailed information.
