PC*Miler has a Excel Spreadsheet Add-on that will allow you to calculate miles(FromZipCode, ToZipCode).

Does MapPoint have the ability to calculate distances between Zip Codes inside a spreadsheet? Possibly create a VBA function that uses Map Point DLL?

Yes some custom programming could do it.

Also my "MileCharter" product will calculate distances and save them to an Excel spreadsheet. (see links below)
First, you need your source and destination points in MapPoint as pushpins - but these can be easily imported from Excel, Access, etc.
It works as an add-in in MapPoint rather than Excel though.

Outstanding, I think I will go buy a copy this weekend and give it a try.
Do you have any recommendations on books for Map Point?

I noticed that Microsoft has a Coupon for a free Streets and Trips w/ GPS. What a bargain!

Well, there's only one book: "MapPoint for Dummies".
Amazon have it, and there are buy links on both my mapping-tools website and on this site here.

It is a good overview of MapPoint. It shows you what is possible without you having to spend a few hours experimenting, and even goes as far as interfacing with ODBC databases. Having just spent the past day with my head in ODBC diagnostics from a different GIS system, I'd class that as "advanced"

It also covers programming using VB, although the programming is more of a taster "this is the kind of thing you can do". The documentation that comes with MapPoint is much more comprehensive in this area.

It covers MapPoint 2002 rather than 2004, but very little has changed. A couple of functions added to the API, different demographics, couple of bug fixes, so it is applicable to 2004 as well.
