Missing leading 0 from zip code

    Hello,

What am I missing? I am importing addresses and zip codes into Map Point 2011. I have formatted the zip code column for zip codes, I've also tried text, and when they are imported into Map Point, Zip Codes beginning with 0s are missing the leading 0s. Any ideas around this?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Excel is usually very "helpful" in removing the leading zeroes, but MapPoint is not known to do this.
So then, you're viewing the properties of the dataset within MapPoint?
Does this mean that the points where the leading zero is missing have been plotted incorrectly?
Please attach a zipped map (ptm) with some of these points.

I'm not sure, but I think you're on the right track when you said you tried as text.

See attached, in the little zipped Excel file, the zip code column has text fields, and when imported the leading 0's are preserved.

So I guess keep trying, because it can work.

    OK,

I have found the problem. In Excel I tried formatting the zip column as a zip code and text I saved both as CSVs and took a look at the data using notepad. The 0s were missing. I found, in the cell formatting when I selected Zip Code then clicked on custom formats, general was selected. I chose the 00000 and that fixed it.

    Thanks for your assistance!
