MP 2004/XP Delorme Earthmate USB GPS

I'm USAF stationed over in the UK and I bought MS MapPoint Europe 2004 and I am trying to get my new Earthmate USB device to work with it. I installed the 3rd party drivers from the Delormee and rebooted. I did have to force XP to use the device as it was only listed as a Human Interface Device. Then I verified the baud was at 4800 Bps/8/N/1/none. I go into mapPoint and configure the GPS then when I try to track position I get the error saying "The GPS receiver is sending messages, but they are not being recongnized as NMEA 2.0-compatible. Make sure the GPS receiver input/output format is set to deliver NMEA 2.0-compatible messages at the correct baud (4800 bps)"

Anyone with the earthmate able to help me out?
