Believe it or not, the help that comes with MP2006 is pretty good. (look under the programming section). A lot of people complain about it, but it is the best documentation I've seen for an application's COM interface! All the examples are in VB6 so that should help you... Also search the articles and forum postings on this site. Useful books are the MapPoint for Dummies (uses MP2002, but little in the API has changed - more of a 'user' book but does have some programming info), and Chandra Thota's "Programming MapPoint in .Net" (O'Reilly - can be purchased from my site, or this one here).
