| I've never heard of this before and not having much luck finding any answers anywhere else... We're going to try rolling back to MP 10, but given Windows rollback is not a perfect science, it may not actually uninstall all of the MP11 stuff. I'd rather leave MP 11 loaded and just figure out what MP2006 is doing and why the install doesn't complete. Any help is apprecaited. |

Hi, Seems I have missed original poster his message. I only have questions of course: 1. Wy do you say that the problem is media player ? Is mappoint installation complaining about media player ? 2. What do you mean by this phrase: "Terr Mgr & DM wizard" 3. You say you get an install error. But please tell what the error is. 4. You tell MP seems to run. What do you mean exacly ? Does it run or not? what do you mean by *seems* ? Are there errors ? which one ? 5. You say "MP is not fully installed". Please tell me what is not installed ?

Here's my scenerio. We have many machines with Mappoint 2004 currently installed and wish to upgrade them all to 2006 using SMS so that we do not have to manually upgrade each one. The problem is, when I try to upgrade to 2006, a windows media 10 error shows up, however Mappoint 2006 works fine. Here's how I recreate the error. I have windows media player 11 on my machine. I install Mappoint 2004 with no problems. The program works fine. Without uninstalling 2004, I install 2006. Halfway through the install process an error message pops up that looks like this: ![]() I found an Microsoft Knowledge Base article on this error found here: Error message when you try to install Windows Media Player 10 on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer: "This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows" This article seems to be related to Media Player 10, however I have 11 installed on the machines. I even checked that the .dll in question is in the correct location, and it is. I can only click cancel, then it completes the install. Hitting details opens up the windows Help Center with a message saying the article cannot be found. In add/remove programs and start>all programs menu, 2004 and 2006 both show up, however pressing either one loads 2006. Have you seen this error before? Is there any way to get rid of it so each user does not see this when I upgrade their version? Thank you for your time! |

This is just a shot in the dark, but... Try stopping the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" prior to installing MapPoint 2006. You can do this using a command-prompt "NET STOP servicename" or windows script host file entry in your deployment package script. I have a sneaky feeling that some portion of MP06 (such as LocationFinder) is bombing installation because of a network/port availability issue. If available, you may wish to remove the LocationFinder installation portion of MP06's installation package. Let me know if this helps. -Paul |

Hi, Ok so I'm wrong (about the media player) On the other hand you are worry about other people that they see this error whilst installation. I think chance is very low. I have installed douzans and douzans of the product without any error. And even with the error all is working fine as you mentioned.

Hey all. Never replied in a forum but since this answer isn't out there anywhere I thought I should! The MapPoint 2006 installation launches a Windows Media 9 codec installation in the MSI. I ended up going into the MSI using orca and removing the row pertaining to "WM9Codecs_Installation" from the InstallExecuteSequence table. There is probably a better way to do it with a transform using the conditions field or something, but whatev. That cleared the problem up. |
