    MPMileage: Batch calculate route distances

MPMileage is a new mileage batch calculation tool that calculates the route distances for a list of point-to-point route pairings. This contrasts with MileCharter which works on two groups (pushpin sets) of pushpins.

MPMileage works as a stand-alone program that controls MapPoint in the background. For additional speed, it can take advantage of modern multi-core PCs and run multiple route calculations simultaneously.

MPMileage is fed a database which lists the start & end locations for each required route. These start & end locations are names of pushpins in a MapPoint file. MPMileage calculates each route and writes the results to the database. Row subsets can be selected for calculation, according to the value of a third column.

MPMileage supports all of MapPoint's route options, and can calculate route distances, times, and costs. For efficiency, the database should ideally be a relational database such as Microsoft Access, but Microsoft Excel is also supported. In addition to Access, an ODBC option is currently in beta testing.

Licenses cost US$75 each. Volume discounts are available.

See MPMileage: Batch calculate mileages with Microsoft MapPoint for further details, and a free trial download.

Re: MPMileage: Batch calculate route distances

I sometimes have MPMileage feature requests for support for coordinates and/or on-the-fly geocoding. I'm currently adding these features and on the look out for test data, and eventually testers.

Let me know if you think you have suitable data. The data should be in a database (ideally Access) with one row per route. Columns should specify the longitude, latitude ordinates for the source and destination points; OR street addresses for the source and destination points. The street addresses should be pre-parsed: eg. StartStreet,StartCity,StartState,StartZipcode, EndStreet,EndCity,EndState,EndZipcode

Re: MPMileage: Batch calculate route distances

MPMileage is now up to v2.6: MPMileage: Batch calculate mileages with Microsoft MapPoint

As well as coordinates and automatic geocoding, v2.6 supports ODBC connections, and command-line operations.

A version for Caliper Maptitude has just entered beta testing. Contact me if you are interested in testing it.
