New Plugin for Mappoint + Screen shots

Hi every one,

I have written a new plug-in for Mappoint. It is called GPS Magic and it does everything Advanced GPS did, and lots more.

The reason I wrote this add in is because I registered AGPS about 3 years ago and used it for a short while, but i found it did not work as well as I expected it to.

I kept checking for updates but none were available.

After a while I decided that I would have a go and write my own plug in just for personal use. However I have been using it and modifying it for the past 2 years and have now decided to make it available to the general public.

It has got a Skin that makes it look like a GPS receiver.

And Instructions that look like road signs.

It also has a traffic camera option that alerts with the enforcement speed as you approach a traffic camera.

for more information please take a look at my website,

www.gpsmagic.info

and let me know what you think.

Regards,

So really, this is a UK-only application?

Cost-wise, how does the laptop + GPS + MapPoint solution compare to one of the modern GPS guidance solutions or one of the PDA + GPS solutions.
Having just spent three weeks in the UK I've seen a number of such variations. Maybe its just my extended family but they seem more popular over there

It strikes me that the PDA solution would be more convenient and cost effective. They also come with frequent updates. But the re-routing seemed to take a while (perhaps a minute) for the Garmin that I watched for 100+miles. (local knowledge can help often results in changes from the suggested route).

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply.

In answer to your questions.

My intended target is people who already have a laptop e.g. a service engineer, sales man ect. These people may not wish to buy a PDA just for routing purposes.

At present GPS Magic is only available in English however, it will work on all versions of Mappoint.

In the future I may release a multi lingual version of the software.

Kind Regards,

Hi Paul,

I wasn't thinking so much of the multi-lingual nature (although that would be important), but also things like the road signs - which vary from country to country.
I know what a green background road sign means, but does everyone else

Also I don't know what the speed camera databases are like for other countries - perhaps you're right in aiming for the UK market.

I was thinking from the perspective of adding it to my website. To make it worthwhile (for me), it would probably have to have a higher selling price with a slightly different business model (ie. free trial), and work with other countries (=bigger market). (send me an email off list if you're still interested)
