| GPS INfo from a NEXTEL Phone
If your nextel phone is Java enabled, you can write an app to grab the NMEA message and send the position data using the SMS resource to any email address. You have to find the development environment which is provide free of charge by Motorola. I work on a project using a Nextel 860i. We have successfully grab and decoded the NMEA message and sent it using SMS as an email message. Its quite easy to grab the email message, scrape off the Lat-Long info into a database and write a VB app to periodically read the DB for new entries and plot them onto a Mappoint Map. The cell phone development environment has a steep learning curve (reading a 400 page users manual), but technically the job can be done. I note that your user name indicates that you might be a fireman. If you are in public safety, I can provide you with assistance at no charge. |
