NoSpam! Add-in for vBulletin

A few days ago I installed the "NoSpam!" add-in for vBulletin. If the past couple days are any indication, this should reduce the spam in here, it seemed like I was deleting several per week.

I have seen no spam in the forums and no spam in the Contact Us form.

In addition to the Image Verification for registrations (somehow bots get through this? technically it's difficult but vBulletin is a huge target so it's a tasty hack), NoSpam! just adds an arbitrary question during registration and on the Contact Us form. I put in some simple math e.g. What is 1+2 ? Acceptable answers could be 3 or three.

Eric

Re: NoHack Add-in for vBulletin

I'm on the verge of changing the software/scripts I use for my contact forms - the default setting of the script I'm considering has something similar.

What has worked well on some non-commercial phpBB forums that I have, is to add a trivia question that has a fixed number as an answer. For those who don't know it, there's even a text caption saying "look at the homepage" - which explicitly gives the answer. Not one piece of spam in the last 9+months! Even the human spammers can't be bothered to look at the home page.

Re: NoSpam! Add-in for vBulletin

Since the forum upgrade a few weeks ago, apparently this NoSpam! add-in was preventing new registrations.. so there have been no new registrations for some weeks!

This add-in has been disabled and now anyone can register once again.

Sorry to anyone who has been inconvenienced!

Thanks to Marvin Hlavac who runs LaptopGPSWorld ( Laptop GPS World ) who alerted me to the issue.

Eric

Re: NoSpam! Add-in for vBulletin

Here you can see the last registrations were all about 3 weeks ago... then suddenly since it was fixed today there have been five new registrations --
