Most post code databases (including those from the Ordnance Survey!) lack certain post codes. Common ones that are missing include things like the Girobank (or whatever it is called these days), Belfast (ie. Northern Ireland), the Isle of Man, and the Channel Islands.
Sometimes the Orkneys, Shetlands, and parts of the Hebrides might be missing. (the OS usually ship these)
Note that the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are not full members of the UK - they are essentially protectorates (technically Bailiwicks). Yes this doesn't explain Northern Ireland, but Northern Ireland has always been a special case in just about everything.

When you say mapped, what are you looking for? eg shaded postcode sectors, symbols within postcode sectors etc

yeah shaded postcode sectors, territories etc
In that case I don't think there's much you can do using MP. When I've done mapping in NI I usually use symbols (eg, coloured circles, proportional circles etc) plotted at the postcode sector centroids. Incidentally I think you can do address-finding in NI, so there is postcode data built into the package but unfortunately not the boundaries that you need.

Mappoint 2004 knows almost nothing about NI. Main roads is about all. 2009 is better on roads but it is in 2 minds regarding postcodes. It will geolocate a full NI postcode. But it doesn't understand the Postcode Districts. E.g. ask it where BT42 4RJ is and it will tell you, ask it where BT42 is and it hasn't a clue.
PS I have had recent success geolocating NI Postcodes in Mappoint 2004, so it knows more than I thought, although the locations were often located on a blank section of map with nothing but the occasional village name. No good for Routing which is what I was trying to do last time.
