| Open Access Record via Mappoint Pin This is my first post ever. I guess that makes you my first! This should be fun I am looking for a way to open Access 2003 records via a pin on a Mappoint map. I used the link wizard to map my customers with a unique ID in Mappoint, but now need the ability to click on the pin and have the customer's record open up in my database. I usually have the database open to the form that I would like the customer record to open up in, and both the database and mappoint program/files are located on my computer, so I don't need to connect to the web to perform any of my actions. I've scowed the net for a few days looking for any leads on this problem, but have not found anything as of yet. Maybe I'm using the wrong wording in my searches. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm great full for any advice or direction. Even if its letting me know it just not possible. Thanks Carl Last edited by k2man; 07-27-2008 at 04:30 PM. | Jump-to Access Record from Mapppoint Pin
I am trying to find a way to click on a Mappoint pin and have it open Access and jump to the record/customer associate with that pin. In my daily work I enter customers into an Access form where I enter address, comments, and service notes. I then have Mappoint Link Data Wizard map them. I then drive around servicing customers who's pins have popped up on the map. It would be very helpful to be able to click on the customer's pin and have their specific record open within Access. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? |

Sorry, Carl. Yes, it's possible. Are you thinking of opening a form via COM Add-in such that MapPoint is open-like a shapefile viewer? Mike Mattys |

Mike, Thanks for your attention to my question, and your humor I have limited program language skills, so I had to look up shapefile viewer on wiki, however, I'm still not sure what a shapefile viewer is, or how I could take advantage of it to accomplish this task. Can you explain a bit more to help me figure this out? Ideally, clicking on a pin in MP would open up Access 2003 (or maximize the Access window if program is open) and then it would open the "Customer Detail" form within Access. And finally jump to the customer who's record is associated with the pin that was clicked (or better yet when you click on a selection in the right-click menu of the pin). If the only viable route is to have a form open up within MP that contains the customer's information and has editable fields and updates the Access table behind the scene then that will would be a 2nd choice. I'm not sure I have given you enough to answer the question. Let me know where to go from here. Thanks, Carl |

| Re: Open Access Record via Mappoint Pin
Carl, Part of a shapefile include the records of latitude and longitude as well as other optional information depending upon who the data is intended for (earthquake scientist, farmer, etc) The viewer allows one to see the record like a database query allows one to view records in a table, though read-only. For MapPoint, this would necessitate a COM Addin, whether read-write or read-only. The addin could be used in the Beforeclick event of the map. That's as far as I'll go without a prescription. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. Have your account number ready |
