| Plotting all the address as pushpins not working. When i import data to mappoint, all the address shows as only one pushpin. I put a similar topic here a month ago but i did not get any help. I have about 200 address to plot. All the addresses dont work. When I do plot the addresses, the one pushpin is located on the middle of the city. And when I double click on the push pin, it shows all the addresses. I tried the same thing with older version of mappoint in windows xp, and it worked fine. Except it did not have some streets available. I put the addresses in mappoint as, Address, City, State. Im attatching a sample file with the addresses on it. If someone could help me what the problem is, I would be really thankful. I couldnt upload excel file by it self so i had to zip it up. I need to finish this work ASAP.. Thanks for all the help~ Last edited by mastaBH; 08-20-2007 at 05:11 PM. |

| Re: Plotting all the address as pushpins not working.
Can’t really understand why MapPoint is plotting all 200 addresses by city instead of address. Try reading them in via Import Data Wizard, then on the table that immediately appears check that the data type for your first column is Address. Also that the “First Row Contains Column Headings” box is checked. Beyond that I don’t know. I run MP Europe 2006 and abbreviating the second part of the address sometimes leads to problems eg 55 Spearmint Rd, Epsom would be plotted correctly but 55 Spearmint Ro, Epsom would be plotted at the city centre. You may have problems with abbreviations like Cir but I can’t see any reason why 68 Sparrow Rd isn’t located by address. David

Hi, I assume the format of the address is not right, so mappoint does not recognize the street and plot in the middle of the city.

i have the same problem. However I set up the territory I canot import an excel file to show my customers as individual pinpoints on a map based on post code sectors - they always come through as one pinpoint on a UK wide territory. Would much appreciate some help! Peteryt |

Hi Peteryt On import data wizard specify your input file. It then shows you some sample data records. Country/Region should obviously be set to United Kingdom. For the rest of the address check that the column headings are right eg 145 Alexandra Road, Epsom, Surrey, KT17 8MX The Data type for 145 Alexandra Road should be Address1, for Epsom should be City, for Surrey should be County and for KT17 8MX should be postcode. If you just want to plot by postcode (which is often preferable in MapPoint) set the other elements of the address to Other Data in the data type box . Hope this works David

Hi David That's great I can now work it a treat! However the balloons, when I hover over them, do not reveal the customers name only "Custom Territories" and the name of the territory. Do you or anyone else know of a quick fix for this? I really appreciate your help. Many thanks Peter |

To get the information box to show you have to double left click on a pushpin. Hover doesn't work. Rgds, David

Hi Sorry I didn't explain myself very well. My balloons DO show when I hover over them! But, the name they reveal is not the one I want, they just reveal "Custom Territories" and the name of the territory, not the name of the customer. Peter |

You explained yourself fine. As far as I’m aware when you plot data in MapPoint, - eg shaded areas, multiple symbols and territory definitions – then when you hover the cursor over them you see a “data tip.” However this isn’t the case for pushpins. So in your example what you’re seeing is the data tip for the territory, which will show up if you rest the cursor at any point on the territory including on a pushpin. As I said you need to double left click to see the pushpin balloon. If you’re very keen to see a data-tip for a pushpin then you’ll have to set them up as a data-set, which has the drawback that you will only be able to see one piece of data. For example if you have a particularly key piece of data - eg sales – you can read the worksheet in, then specify ‘multiple symbol’ on data mapping wizard, then sales as the variable to be plotted, then restrict number of ranges to one. On the resulting map, when hovering on a symbol the data tip should show you your name variable (presumably contact name) and sales. Hope that helps.
