This is a MapPoint question, but not the usual sort: How many other people got spammed using the PM function? Mine is titled "Symbiosis," and it triggered an e-mail to my e-mail account displaying the message: "Hey,I'm new here, how's it going?"The most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently" - Pema Chodron---Symbiosis [website not typed, of course]" The e-mail address given for the sender was ericwfrost@yahoo.com. Obviously the idea was to get the MapPoint site to send me the spam, which I must admit is not unclever. I don't see a Report Spam link, so I thought I'd post this message. Hopefully one of the mods sees it.

Hi Thanks for reporting this. I did notice it yesterday and disabled the person's acct.

I will be upgrading the forum this week with better spam protection, I will make sure there is something which prevents mass PM-ing.

You're welcome! No trouble; it was interesting to encounter the new spamming method. So that's your real e-mail? Oh, dear. Yes, checking your inbox might take a minute; that might have been a smarter way to notify you, but I didn't want to assume that was really your account. Good luck!

I had about 10 out of office replies, assuming say one in 20 e-mail had an out of office e-mail bounceback that might mean 200 spams got out ? I'm afraid it might be a lot more than that.

Anyway, I will definitely check on PM spam protection and if it's not built into the new version of the forum software I will install an add-in.

Yes, 200 would indicate an unusual amount of restraint on the spammer's part. If there's already an add-in available, this must be a common practice; I see I'm not up on the cutting edge of spam technology.
