This is a discussion on Problems with copy and paste of user-defined territories within the MapPoint 2006/2009 Discussion forums, part of the Map Forums category; I know, I should not cross-post, but as I got no reply in the MapPoint newsgroup, maybe someone of you ...

| Problems with copy and paste of user-defined territories I'm using the European version of MapPoint 2002 (German language) and just started working with it. In a map of Germany I defined seven territories. I saved this map, deleted six of the territories and saved the map under a new name. Likewise I continued for the other territories, so that I now have eight ptm-files (overview plus seven single territories). These maps I want to insert into a PowerPoint presentation (PPT 2002/xp). So Thursday evening I opened those files one after the other and copied my maps with copy and paste to eight PPT-pages. (Right-click on the map in MapPoint, "copy", right-click in PowerPoint-chart, "paste".) Everything looked fine, I had eight different maps. When I re-opened the PPT-file Friday morning to continue work, I found eight pages with the identical overview-map, none with the single territories. How can this happen? I thought bitmap images of my maps were imported into PowerPoint with this method, having no connection with MapPoint (this is important, because the client, on whose computer I'm going to run the presentation, doesn't have MapPoint installed). If I doubleclick on the imported map, it behaves like a normal bitmap graphic - a dialog box for borders, re-sizing, etc. is opened, not the MapPoint program. Can anyone of you help me solving this problem? Thanks in advance! Ute |

That's odd.. I can't explain and haven't seen the behaviour. Just doing a copy/paste, I would imagine those are embedded, not simple images (see an article on embedding in Word here: http://www.mp2kmag.com/articles.asp?...edding.in.word ). What you might want to do to make sure you are working with simple images is construct screenshots (jpg, gif, or bmp) and then insert those into Powerpoint. (see an article on making screenshots here: http://www.mp2kmag.com/articles.asp?ArticleID=54 ). Good luck, Eric

Thanks for your prompt reply, Eric! I had made screenshots previously, but then I noticed that I get the copyright notice, when doing a copy/paste and wanted to include this. But my images can't be fully embedded, they are not editable when double-clicking (as mentioned in that article about Word). PowerPoint treats them as graphic (like any bitmap image) when I double-click on them. Anyway, I found a workaround meanwhile: I right-click on the image in PowerPoint, choose "Save as graphics ..." (is that the right English term?) and save it as a JPG- or PNG-file. Then I delete the one coming directly from MapPoint and insert the new one. One more step to take, but it works! Kind regards, Ute |
