Is it possible to format pushpins (by color, size, etc) based on certain conditions (ex. >$2m in revenue by client)?
Thanks.

I am a new user to MapPoint, and should clarify the question...is it possible to format the graph/pushpins based on certain criteria?
I am attempting to emphasize important locations based on revenue, market opportunity, etc. Is this possible?...or will I have to "presort" the data in excel and import a multiple data sets into MapPoint?
Are there any good MapPoint books out there?
Lastly, is it possible to change the map itself only to show the locations where a pushpin is? (avoiding the display of unimportant cities)
You can colour code the pushpins automatically if you use the displaydatamap method (see the help for details). Alternatively, you can manually (in code) adjust the pushpin's symbol.ID based on some criteria. All this assumes that the field containing the value to be used for colour coding has been imported (or at least available for manual option)
AFAIK the backgound map is a single layer and unamendable. The best you can do is turn off all the all members of the placecategories collection.
You may want to try changing the style of map displayed (ActiveMap.MapStyle). The options are limited but there may be one better suited to your needs.
