In the file that we have been working with; using the draw toolbar- select the red pushpin. Click on the needed point on the map and where the pushpin used to appear, it simply returns to the cursor and leaves no pushpin.
I hope that this helps a bit
Ballpark guess, how many pushpins does your map have?
Have you tried a new map to see if you can add pushpins?

How would one find out how many pins are in a map?
If he opens a new map he is able to add pins.
We had this issue another time and selecting the map and pasting into a new map corrected it, but it wont work this time around.
To find out how many pushpins (per dataset) on the map you need to look in the Legend and Overview. Right click on the pushpin that represents the dataset ("My Pushpins") or whatever one you have and choose properties. On the general tab it will say "number of records".
I belive there is a pushpin limit on a dataset of 10000 pushpins.
Have him Right Click one of the pushpins on the map, choose properties, click New Dataset and give the new Dataset a name. (That will move the pushpin to the new dataset)
Then try to add the new pushpin.
Let us know how it works out (and how many pushpins are on the map)

After talkinf with Microsoft (at lenght......twice) it has been decided that the map is corrupt and unrecoverable. How nice for me! :?
Also, the map contained 2635 pins (which all have to be re-entered on a new map)
Thanks to all who tried to help!
