| Queens, New York Addresses Example: '1950 48th Street, 11105' is on 48th Street and the nearest cross street is 19 Ave, but there are many addresses on that block. MapPoint seems to do this in many areas of Queens. Other map sources like MapQuest, Yahoo and Street Atlas don't have this problem. Any thoughts? This is really disappointing. What's the sense giving us an API if MS is going to cripple it in favor of the web service? (ie, not exposing Matt |

NY = New York State. Queens I've never been to, but is a district - near Manhattan. The Airbus plane crash in Oct. 2001 where the tailfin came off was in Queens. It also features in the film "Men In Black" (where the two flying saucers are hidden as a 'Worlds Fair'). Richard

I didn't realize Queens, NY (New York), needed to be identified by airplane crash events and flying saucers but if that still doesn't help, try locating the zip code I mentioned in the original post: 11105. But seriously folks, (and especially any moderators), I guess I'm just venting at this point - I'm a loyal MS developer and MapPoint is awesome in many ways but appears to be intentionally crippled in places (ie, events that are not raised through the API, events that can't be cancelled and of course the lat/long issue) and now missing addresses. In fact, either MP can't find an address or finds addresses that don't exist because it appears to calculate address positions based on a known starting point? Is that correct? So, it finds "1000 Main St" even when Main St only has addresses from 10 to 100? Anyway, it looks like I need to bulk geocode my customer addresses using another product like Delorme's Street Atlas. Like I said, disappointing but I'll make the most of what MP offers which is still impressive. Matt |

I'm not sure about address coding, but my personal experience with some addresses in Scotland would suggest that you are right in that short-cuts have been made in the coding of street numbers. Yes I think the api is intentionally crippled. Datawise, MapPoint is a bargain, so I think they have to intentionally restrict what you can do with it (the suppliers would ask for more money for more flexibility). It is possible to programmatically computer the longitude and latitude coordinate from a Location object. There's an article on this site that tells you how to do it. It is in VB6, but I've successfully ported it to C++ in the past. Richard
