    Question regarding demographic info

I recently installed MapPoint 2004 and when I attempt to use demographic data I get an error message that indicates the
demographic data is missing or corrupt.
Does MapPoint 2004 come with demographic data or do I need to get the data from another source ?

    Please advise ~ Thanks

No, it does come with demographic data. You should not get this error. Have you tried reinstalling or tried it on another machine?

The only thing I can think of and it's a long shot is that maybe you followed some people instructions on "updating" MapPoint 2004 with Streets & Trips 2005 data? That might cause the problem.

OK, one more thing and again it's a long shot -- the demographic data is stored in a large MDB file. Could there be something on your machine that is messing up the MDB file? Or maybe it's possible your MDB file got corrupt during installation or something?

Anyway, good luck, let us know how you do.

    Re: Question regarding demographic info

Can anyone help please. Is it possible to get an update of demograhic date for MP 2004 which is now 7-8 years out of date. I suppose buying MP 2011 would solve the problem but just wanted to know.

Yes MapPoint 2011 will solve your problem!

Microsoft do not offer data updates. A new set of data (road, demographic, geocoding) would take up the bulk of what comes on the MapPoint DVD - and it would have the same sub-licensing costs as a new MapPoint. In other words a data update DVD would cost almost as much as a full MapPoint disk.

You could download and import new County and State data from the census bureau, I think Census 2010 is published now?

It would be a lot more difficult to match up zip and census tract data because the underlying geographies have changed. i.e. there are new zip codes carved out of old zip codes and census tracts have been further divided.

The short of it is, if you need zip code or census tract level demos, then it would be better to buy MapPoint 2011. If you just need state and county level data, then it might save some bucks and just download and import the new data since the county and state definitions have not changed (or maybe county has changed just minimally between 2000 and 2010).
