    realtime gps in MapInfo ?

    Hi,

I currently use mapinfo for the display of various properties around the country. I use it on my laptop when driving around, so I can see where the next property is that I have to get to.
What I am needing to do is to hook up my GPS, so I can see my current location from within Mapinfo.
Is this something that is possible? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions for me? I've thought of the idea of using the mapinfo data in another program that may have the functionality, but am at a loss to what to use.

    thanks!
    Gav

Why do you need to use MapInfo? What is the data you have in it?

Can it be imported into MapPoint?
Or even Streets & Trips? (which is much cheaper than MapPoint)

    Thanks Richard.

I use mapinfo as a database for a large number of rural property boundaries. I'm not sure if this can be imported into mappoint... does mappoint provide a realtime location component?
    thanks.

Yes MapPoint can show your position in real time, according to an attached GPS device.

You should be able to import the MapInfo shapes using a third party tool, however a lot of complex boundaries might slow MapPoint significantly.

If you could live without the boundaries, the least expensive solution would indeed be Microsoft Streets & Trips. It would allow you to import addresses or lat/long as pushpins. You could then use Streets & Trips for real-time GPS navigation on your laptop.
