Rookie Q: Multiple .ptms, colors

I just started using MP for some consulting and am a bit perplexed there's little middle ground with the product - it goes from 'MP for Dummies' straight to writing (albeit, relatively easy intro) code.

Here's my initial question(s). We save individual courier 'routes' (.ptm's with highlighted driving directions). For planning visuals we'd like to display/print say 3-5 routes on the screen at once, each in a different color, and for printing some sort of minimal representation of the 3-5 digit route number tagged/bubbled on either the route OR point.

Doable? Any kickoff advice? Would we be locked in to losing route colors (or anything else?) if we save as a composite?

At this moment in time we would never Optimize Stops (or even Get Directions) on a composite due to optimization concerns and point-to-point pickup/delivery constraints at the route level, BUT the operative exercise is to optimize re-routing of a dynamic (clients/stops added/dropped weekly) whole system, so any thoughts on a 'next step', even beyond MP, would be helpful.

Thanks! Scott

Re: Rookie Q: Multiple .ptms, colors

MapPoint can only handle one route at once.

You could draw multiple routes as "freeform lines" (polylines) but there's no decent way of digitizing the route from MapPoint's ActiveRoute. Yes there are location objects stored in it but these are intended for segment viewing - ie. they might not even be on the route!

Some add ons (eg. TourSolver) get around this by providing their own route data and routing engine. This is non-trivial, to say the least!
